“Designing for Yourself: A Beautiful Nightmare”

They say the hardest client to please is yourself. They are absolutely right. Designing for clients? No problem. They give you a brief, some half-baked ideas, and—if you’re lucky—a Pinterest board full of unrelated inspirations. You work your magic, deliver something great, and everyone’s happy. But when it’s time to design your own website, portfolio, or branding? Suddenly, you forget everything you’ve ever known.

What colors do you want? All of them. What font? Impossible to decide. Layout? Well, maybe something minimal… but also bold… but also innovative… but not too trendy… but still timeless. Congratulations, you’re now trapped in an endless loop of revisions, scrapped ideas, and existential questioning.

Why is it so hard? Maybe because when you’re designing for someone else, you have constraints, a target audience, a clear goal. But when it’s for yourself, the possibilities are endless—and that’s terrifying. Maybe it’s perfectionism, maybe it’s imposter syndrome, or maybe it’s just karma for all the times you told a client, “Trust the process.”

So, how do you escape this self-inflicted design purgatory? Well, that’s the real challenge. But one thing’s for sure: at some point, you’ll have to stop tweaking and just hit publish. Even if you already hate it five minutes later.
